The following status updates and pictures are a sampling of what you'll get if you become a fan:
08/25/09: The first batch of our Texas Road Merlot was picked and crushed on Monday, 8/24/09 (17.8 tons). The sugar was 22.5 brix. When we make our Merlot we pick it over a weeks time period and want to pick the grapes at a variety of sugar levels. Grapes have different flavors and produce different alcohol levels at different sugars.
8/22/09: If the grapes are close to being picked acidity, ph and brix levels are tested. Here are the the numbers so far:
Texas Road Merlot - brix 24 Texas Road Viognier - brix 22 Texas Road Zinfandel - brix 20.9 Live Oak
Pinot Noir - brix 25.9, ph 3.25, acid .776.
8/22/09: Erich took grape samples yesterday by walking through the vineyard with a plastic freezer bag and picking several
berries from a vine on the right side of the vineyard row. He then goes down 10-12 vines and takes a sample
from the other side of the ...row. This is repeated until the bag has aprox. 400 berries in it. The berries are
then crushed in the bag and the juice is poured to a cup and the sugar or brix is taken.
8/14/09: Pictures of first day of harvest - Sauvignon blanc grapes being crushed.
8/12/09: Sauvignon Blanc is now at 20-22 brix and we will start crushing either Thursday or Friday. Viognier is about 10 days behind the Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
