VINEYARD PROFILE
Our very limited Côte Rôtie Style Syrah is available exclusively to our Cottontail Wine Club members and tasting room customers. The Syrah was produced from the steepest section of our Live Oak Vineyard located off Highway 46 West, four miles west and four miles south of the town of Paso Robles, California. This section of our vineyard contains very heavy limestone rock soil, with a concentrated yield of just one ton per acre. Côte Rôtie, meaning "roasted slope," is a sub region located in the warm and sunny hillsides of the Northern Rhône wine region of France. One of the aspects of this particular region's wines is they are almost all blended, and some co-fermented with Viognier. The Viognier portion of our Côte Rôtie Style Syrah was grown in the same general location as our Syrah, on our neighbor's vineyard. Like a fine Côte Rôtie, our wine contains approximately five percent Viognier. |

WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS
The wine was held on the skins for nearly a month, then was gently pressed and racked to French and American oak barrels where it was aged until the day before it was bottled in late February 2008. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, in the Old World style. Our unique Côte Rôtie Style Syrah blend was made to emulate the fine wines of this sub region. TASTING NOTES Like all Côte Rôties, this special wine is very fragrant and rich with notes of blackcurrant, raspberries and spice. We feel this wine has excellent aging potential and suggest it be laid down for a while before consuming. Only 197 cases were produced. Visit the "Awards and Reviews" page on our website for a complete list of awards on our wines. |
